Education

Licensed Special Education Teacher and staff offer an individualized, functional, and well-rounded curriculum in a safe and therapeutic environment, providing a life skills curriculum to help youth develop healthy relationships, effective communication, and problem-solving skills to interact positively with family, friends, and the community.

The Rite of Passage Morrison Home provides an on-grounds Facility School education program, approved by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). All Federal and State guidelines regulating educational programming are followed, such as the Colorado State Quality Standards for Approved Programs, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Exceptional Children Education Act, and No Child Left Behind Act.

The academic curriculum is developed annually by the Rite of Passage Morrison Home’s Facility School Special Education Director and Education Coordinator/Teacher to meet student needs and is referenced to Colorado Content Standards and the District’s content standards, goals, and objectives.

The Rite of Passage Morrison Home ensures that the core academic standards in the school program are functional, in accordance with their Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) and focused upon life skills and the acquisition of vocational skills. Areas of emphasis in elective areas could include but are not limited to; social and emotional learning, adaptive physical education, self-care, advocacy and hygiene, and career and technical education.

The Morrison Home Education program offers students a general education route, IEP route, or GED route. Depending on each individualized student’s needs, the team will discuss what educational route a student will take depending on individual learning needs and abilities during the intake process. The Rite of Passage school offers students the opportunity to apply for scholarships for higher education and vocational opportunities.

The Morrison Home Education program offers day treatment school for students who need a smaller learning environment geared towards their learning styles. Students who are enrolled in the day treatment program will attend the Morrison Home School and receive Therapeutic Services.

Special education components:

Six (6) hours of direct student contact classroom time for the approved 176 days that CDE requires.

  • • Full six (6) week summer education program of experiential, community-based learning.
  • • Special Education Generalist Licensed Teacher and paraprofessional.

Vocation

Morrison Home offers a variety of vocational opportunities to the students in the program. Morrison Home students are engaged year-round in the Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program. The Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program (RAMP) is a high-tech, career-focused mentoring program for youth involved with or at risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system, geared toward youth with disabilities. Morrison Home students participate in vocational workshops at Teaching the Autism Community Trades (T.A.C.T) with same-aged peers to learn new trades and engage in a hands-on learning style. All Morrison Home students participate in First Aid/ CPR/ AED to learn life saving measures and earn a two-year certificate. In addition to our community involvement vocations, students also participate in nightly vocations throughout programming to learn and enhance their independent living skills. Morrison Home provides daily vocations for our students to engage in and learn different types of skills. Daily vocations include personal finance, marching, art, and study hall. Through participation and engagement, the students earn certificates to building their resumes and job readiness skills.
